Today’s interview is with Ashlee Taylor, author of Can’t Walk Away. Let’s get to know her and her work (and her excellent taste in music!)!
). Tell us a little about your book: My book is entitled Can’t Walk Away, it’s the story of a woman who had never really did anything exciting in her life decides to take her sisters advice and throw caution to the wind and go out to a club one night where she meets a man. One thing leads to another and the next morning she is left with only bits and pieces of something transpiring. She doesn’t realize how much was left with her until a few months later. She delves in the world of books where she uses the snippet of this encounter she can’t fully remember to fuel her books. As she goes on with her life she ends up running into a man she’d only seen in her dreams. A man who would turn out to turn her world upside down. Finding out the truth is hard to take, there are twists and turns to this story that keep you on the edge of your seat wanting more.
). What is your favorite part of writing? Least favorite? My favorite part of writing is letting these characters who live in the recesses of my brain come out and live on the pages. My least favorite is editing because I hate removing parts that I love because they may not flow as well as they should.
). A director tells you that you have complete control over casting the movie version of your book. Who plays who? Oh Gosh, Alessandro Terrin would play Nicholas Prescotti & Barbara Plavin would play Christianna Thomas. I’d have to fill in the rest of them with the next books .
). If your house was burning down and you could only save one thing, what would it be (don’t say photo albums, everyone says photo albums)? My laptop… but after my kids get out first.
). If you could choose what one message that a reader takes away from reading your book, what would it be? You’re going to get that one of a kind story that you’ve never read before, it’s never easy to come to a conclusion in my stories. Just like life…but it’s all worth it.
). Imagine a world where everyone wears a t-shirt that says something about who they are as a human being, i.e. “Doesn’t play well with others” or “Don’t talk to me until I’ve had coffee.” What would yours say? She may be small, but she is fierce.
). Who has been your biggest supporter in your writing? That would be my writing partner Elizabeth Hayes/Lori Keller & Stephanie Phillips… We’re the three best friends that everyone could have…literally
). What song is the soundtrack to your life? Epiphany By Staind – so much so I have a tattoo of some of the words tattooed on me in honor of my kids.
“I’ll dig myself a little hole, inside your precious heart.”
). If you had only one book to read for the rest of your life what would it be? Rotten By: JL Brooks – it’s that good.
). Favorite quote about writing, life or otherwise: There is no friend as loyal as a book. – Ernest Hemingway
